Zion Mountain Bike Trails

Southern Utah is a mecca for mountain biking. The Greater Zion area is known for being home to Red Bull Rampage and it is also abounding in flowy beginner and intermediate singletrack and endless gravel roads.

Local Zion mountain biking offers a variety of styles from jumpy slickrock to exposed cliff edges along juniper mesas.   • The Springdale town trail is two loops the locals like to ride or walk. It has evolved over time to be ridden so there are some sections that are tight and may catch you off guard.

    If you have your own bike and are staying in town or want to demo one of our bikes this is a great option for a quick pedal.

    Distance: 3.1 Miles
    Rating: Beginner/+

  • Wire Mesa is a local favorite with a little of everything.

    Mixed terrain; rocks, trees, Slickrock loop along the edge of a mesa with beautiful, exposed desert views.

    It is a loop that can be ridden both clockwise and counterclockwise: Clockwise for descending the technical sections, counterclockwise for climbing the technical sections.

    **One thing to note. The road to access this trail from the west (Springdale) side requires a high clearance vehicle and possibly 4x4 depending on the time of year. Call the shop to get the current conditions.

    Distance: 7.4 mile loop
    Rating: Intermediate +

  • JEM is a well-known system offering a range of trails from beginner to expert. These trails offer flowy, open desert riding with unobstructed views of the Zion skyline.

    There are multiple trails with three different trailheads:

    Trailheads are located based on their positioning within the whole system. Upper - JEM Trailhead located HERE, Middle - Sheep Bridge Trailhead located HERE, and Lower - Lower JEM Trailhead Parking located HERE.

    The primary trails are the following:

    JEM: 6.9 miles
    - Downhill only sections
    - Rating: Beginner to Expert (Switchbacks that can be walked are only expert section)

    Cryptobiotic: 3.3 miles
    - Undulating, limited elevation gain
    - Rating: Beginner

    Goosebumps: 3.6 miles
    - Punchy
    - Rating: Intermediate

    Deadringer: 5.2 miles
    - Exposure, elevation gain/loss depending on trailhead
    - Rating: Intermediate

    Hurricane Rim: 6.6 miles
    - Rocky with cliff-edge exposure
    - Rating: Advance

    *Trails can be linked to create loops and longer rides

  • Guacamole is primarily slickrock with limited trail indicators. This system offers two trails with beautiful views of the eastern skyline of Zion.

    Whole Guacamole: 11 miles
    - This trail runs from the trailhead along the main thoroughfare to a loop (Holy Guacamole) and then returns on the same out track.
    - Rating: Advanced

    Margarita: 2 miles
    - Intermediate

    Guacamole: 2.2 miles
    - Rating: Intermediate

    Salt on the Rim: 1 mile
    - Rating: Advanced

    Holy Guacamole: 3.3
    - Rating: Advanced

    *Multiple trails accessible from a single trailhead that can be linked in loops

  • Gooseberry is a well-known trail system offering mixed terrain typical of mesa riding.

    The trails offer slickrock and juniper trees with desert views and a variety of connector trails.

    There are multiple trails accessible from two trailheads:

    Gooseberry Mesa Trailhead - HERE, Windmill Trailhead - HERE

    White Trail: 3.2 miles

    Practice Trail: 1.3 miles

    The North Rim: 1.8 miles

    The South Rim: 5.5 miles

    The Big Loop: 13.1 miles

  • Little Creek has some of the most amazing views of the greater Zion landscape.

    The trails offer slickrock, juniper trees with desert views, and a few loops you can interconnect.

    Little Creek Trailhead is located HERE.

    Trails from this trailhead are the following:

    West Loop: 7 miles
    - Rating: Advanced

    Magic Carpet: 1 mile
    - Rating: Advanced

    North Loop: 3 miles
    - Rating: Advanced

    Little Creek Slick: 2 miles
    - Rating: Advanced

  • We along with Zion Forever Project and local groups are helping to fund a new trail system on the east side of Zion National Park.

    The first 10 miles of trails have been built and the remaining distances are still being funded.

The majority of damage to bikes happens in transport. So, avoid the stress and schedule a shuttle whether you are renting with us or bringing your own bike we can get you to some of the trailheads that require high clearance or 4x4.

All of our expert mountain bike guides have spent many years riding this desert terrain. Some have grown up here and others have spent years building and developing trails. Not only will our tours offer you a great ride, but you will also be introduced to the history and birth stories of the southern Utah Mountain Bike scene.
